The staff of Brandis grammar school has extensive experience in training and guiding our pupils to the general qualification for university entrance.

In the 2014/2015 school year the 615 pupils are taught by 52 teachers and four church teaching staff.

The excellent technical equipment (IT room, laptop trolley, interactive whiteboards, media facilities) and the alternating teaching times enable us to satisfy the requirements of methodically highly-varied and media supported teaching.

In the eight school years at the grammar school all pupils expand their linguistic competence in English. From year 6 a second foreign language is added to the timetable. It is possible to learn French, Latin or Russian. From year 8 onwards Spanish is offered as a third foreign language for pupils choosing a language focus.

In addition, many pupils take advantage of the option of obtaining internationally-recognised certificates in these languages. In September 2014 a pupil in year 10 achieved 2nd place in the national language competition, an outstanding achievement.

Lessons with a science focus in years 8 to 10 pave the way for an in-depth comprehension of nature and environment. The school has a long, successful tradition of participating in the "young researchers" competition. In 2012 we were awarded the special school prize for particular commitment to the promotion of pupils with an interest in mathematics, science and technology. In May 2014 a year 11 pupil represented Germany in the international environment competition in Istanbul and received a gold medal.

Mobility and exercise are fixed components of the school day, whether it is in lessons, in breaks or via participation in various sporting competitions. In the “young people training for the Olympics" competition the pupils participated successfully in various disciplines, in many cases qualifying for national competition as state winners.

In 1992 the secondary schools in Brandis and Beucha were merged to form the secondary school Mittelschule Brandis.

In November 1998 work began on the first stage of construction for a new building for the Mittelschule. The first six classrooms and three specialist rooms were completed and ready for occupancy in 1999. Two years later the school building was completed.

Work was completed in 2009, with the addition of six further classrooms and the conversion of the existing building.

In 2013 the Mittelschule was renamed Oberschule Brandis (secondary school).

467 pupils are currently taught by 40 teachers in 19 school classes.

Brandis primary school is located in the centre of the town and joins with the secondary school and grammar school in forming a school campus. The school district includes the districts of Polenz and Waldsteinberg (where required). In the current school year there are 203 pupils, taught by a total of 13 teachers and a student teacher.

The building was converted from a crèche into a school in 1992. It has a very good room layout. In addition to well-equipped classrooms, pupils can also make use of a large crafts room, a music room, a library and media room.

The children enjoy working in the pleasant school garden. The grounds of the school were converted in accordance with the concept of future orientation for learning and interacting in a manner that promotes healthy environmental and nature awareness. The school garden was created in the scope of a project with schools in Austria and Scotland, sponsored by the European Union.

In the outdoor area an intensive redevelopment of the schoolyard was implemented in 2005, enabling the pupils to take advantage of numerous mobility games throughout the schoolyard area. In November 2013 the primary school was certified a "mobile and safe school". Sports hall and cafeteria are located near the building.

The after-school facility is situated adjacent to the building. A co-operation agreement is in place with the facility. In addition to intensive co-operation, this also includes joint use of a number of classrooms as after-school rooms and joint supervision for all-day activities. All children receive a hot meal every day where required and can participate in the drink provision system of the after-school facility.

Since the 2005/06 school year pupils have been offered even greater opportunities to develop in the scope of the all-day project. School and after-school clubs are offered several afternoons a week. External partners are involved in the all-day programme and also support the children during the lesson times.

The "an instrument for every pupil" music option sees trained teachers teaching interested and talented pupils since the school year 2010/11. The offer has been used intensively and is supported by the education agency.

In the 2011/2012 school year Brandis primary school celebrated its 20th birthday. Following intensive research into names, on 7 July 2012 the town of Brandis awarded the school the name "school for young world explorers". Both teachers and pupils are proud of the name and further projects are set to address it.

In the external inspection of school quality the primary school team was awarded the grade "very good" in all points and deemed to be working well.

Beucha primary school is located in the Brandis district of the same name.

The school is located in green surroundings, close to a lake. Extensive green areas, an eco meadow, a sports field, the sports hall and school garden with small biotope are all features of the school. The schoolyard was redesigned in recent years. We now have a reading garden, play and climbing equipment, marked paths for scooters etc., a sand pit, a reorganised school garden and planted area, as well as an outdoor classroom. In its entirety, these are ideal conditions for practical use of breaks and teaching time.

In 2011 our facade was redesigned in the scope of an energy-efficient renovation. Our school building now appears colourful and appealing.

114 pupils are at school in the current school year. The majority of these come from Beucha, with a number from Wolfshain, Waldsteinberg and Kleinsteinberg. Our school is 59 years old. This school year we are preparing to celebrate our 60th birthday in the first week of September 2015.
